Understanding Live Lobbies (Public Rooms)
Live Lobbies are public game rooms hosted by members of the GNC community that anyone can find and join. Instead of requiring a private 4-letter room code, these rooms are listed publicly in the Game Finder section on the home page. You can browse the active lobbies list to see what games are currently active, how many players are in the room, and join instantly.
How to Join and Play in Live Lobbies
Playing in Live Lobbies is simple and takes only a few clicks. Follow these steps to participate in public rooms:
Browse or Quick Join: On the home page, scroll to the Game Finder section. Browse active lobbies and click Join, or click the Quick Game button to instantly connect to an active public room.
Host a Public Room: If you want to host and let anyone join, toggle your lobby status to Public from the host settings inside the lobby. This publishes your lobby to the global list.
Follow Room Rules: The room host controls game selection, settings, and start times. Check the lobby chat to coordinate with the host and other players.
Chat Safely: Keep communication friendly. Verified accounts (Google or email sign-in) are required to write in the Live Lobby Chat to prevent spam.
For classic head-to-head battles like Connect 4, Tic Tac Toe, and Battleship, GNC features a dedicated 1v1 matchmaking queue. This mode connects you with another online opponent automatically based on shared game preferences. 1v1 rooms are temporary and focus entirely on the match.
How to Play 1v1 Matchmaking Games
Ready to test your tactical skills? Follow these steps to start matching:
Sign In Required: To ensure fair matching and prevent empty queues, you must be signed in with a Google or email account to search for a 1v1 opponent.
Select Your Filters: Choose which games (e.g., Connect 4, Tic Tac Toe, Battleship) you want to play by clicking their buttons. You will only be matched with players who selected at least one of the same games.
Queue and Launch: Click Find a 1v1 player to enter the matchmaking queue. Keep the page open; GNC will automatically create a temporary room and launch the game once an opponent is found.
Respect the Lifespan: 1v1 rooms are temporary. If either player exits the room or requests a new opponent, the room is permanently closed and you can jump back into matchmaking.
