MISSION GUIDE

Virtual Baby Shower Games to Play Online

A baby shower often has guests from three parts of the parents' lives: family, old friends and coworkers, and many of them live too far away to come. A virtual or hybrid shower brings them in, but a call with twenty people who do not know each other needs something to do. Browser games give it that. The host opens a room and sends the link, every guest joins from their own phone, and the people in the living room and the people on the call play the same rounds. This guide covers which games suit a shower, a round about the parents-to-be, how to run a hybrid shower, and a plan for an hour.

Why Browser Games Suit a Virtual Shower

Shower guests are a mix: a grandmother, a college roommate, two coworkers and a neighbor. Most of them have never met, and some are not comfortable with apps. A browser game asks nothing of them: they open the link from the invitation, join as a guest, and play on their own phone. There is no download and no account. A guest who arrives late joins between rounds. And because every round is short, the shower keeps moving instead of stalling on one long game.

Easy Games for a Mixed Group of Guests

Pick games that need no explaining and do not ask strangers to share much. These work with guests who have just met:

Pictionary - one guest draws a secret word, the others guess. Nobody can draw, which is what makes it work. Up to 10 players.
Category Blitz - name something in a category before your 10-second clock runs out. Up to 10 players.
Memory Match - find pairs of tiles faster than the others. Calm, and fine for older relatives. Up to 8 players.
Quick Minds - multiple-choice trivia where the fastest right answer scores the most. Up to 10 players.
Horse Race - tap to sprint and save stamina for the finish. A one-minute race while the gifts are being fetched. Up to 12 players.

A Round About the Parents-to-Be

The classic shower quiz is "how well do you know the parents". 2 Truths 1 Lie does it with no printing and no answer sheet. The parent-to-be writes three statements, two true and one made up, about their own childhood, how they met, or the pregnancy so far. The guests vote on the lie, and the reveal is where the stories come out. Do two or three rounds, then let the other parent take a turn. Vote Party works well afterwards: the room votes on which parent is most likely to cry at the first school play or get up for the night feed, and the results are often the funniest moment of the shower.

Running a Hybrid Shower

In a hybrid shower, some guests are in the room and some are on the call. The game is where the two halves meet:

Everyone plays on their own phone. The guests in the living room join the same room as the guests on the call. If the room shares one phone, the people on the call end up playing against a committee.
The TV is for the video call, not the game. Put the call on the big screen so the room can see the remote guests. Do not share the game screen: the host is a player too, and their screen can show the word they are drawing.
Charades Remote guests can only guess what they can see. Up to 12 players.
One microphone in the room. Several phones in one room with microphones on cause echo on the call. Use the laptop's microphone and mute the phones.

A Bigger Shower

Most of these games take up to 10 or 12 players. A shower of thirty is better as two or three rooms playing the same game at once, each with its own invite link, than one room where most people wait. Split by group, family in one room and friends in another, or mix them on purpose so people meet. Bring everyone back for the gift opening and finish with Group RPS, rock paper scissors for the whole room at once, which takes up to 20 players.

A One-Hour Shower Plan

Keep it to an hour. Guests on a call stay happy for about that long, and the parents-to-be are often tired:

0 to 10 minutes. Welcome, short introductions, and the room link in the chat. A Horse Race while the last guests arrive.
10 to 25 minutes. Pictionary, to get everyone laughing.
25 to 40 minutes. 2 Truths 1 Lie about the parents-to-be, then a few rounds of Vote Party.
40 to 55 minutes. Gift opening on the call, with a Category Blitz round in between gifts if there are many.
55 to 60 minutes. Thank-yous and goodbye.

Tactical Debrief (FAQ)

Pictionary, Category Blitz, Memory Match, Quick Minds and Horse Race work with guests who have just met. For a round about the parents-to-be, use 2 Truths 1 Lie and Vote Party. All of them are free in a browser.

The host creates a room and sends the invite link with the shower invitation or in the call chat. Guests open it on their own phone, tablet or computer and join as guests, with nothing to download and no account.

Everyone, in the room and on the call, plays the same room on their own phone. Put the video call on the TV so the room can see the remote guests, and keep the game on the phones rather than sharing a screen.

Most of these games take up to 10 or 12 players, and Group RPS takes up to 20. For a bigger shower, run two or three rooms at once and bring everyone together for the gift opening.

2 Truths 1 Lie. The parent-to-be writes two true statements and one made-up one about their childhood, how they met or the pregnancy, and the guests vote on which one is the lie.

About an hour. That leaves time for introductions, two or three games and the gifts. Guests on a call lose interest after that, and the parents-to-be are often tired.
